GREEN BAY (WGBA) -- Visit Green Bay expects there to be a large negative economic impact from no fans attending pre-season games or training camp.
"The tourism thanks to Covid-19 has been impactful," said Brenda Krainik with Visit Green Bay.
She says each pre-season game generates around $15 million in economic revenue. Training Camp and Family Night generate around $9 million. Most of the money supports bars, restaurants, hotels and more.
"It has been a trying time for all of us," Krainik said. "We are doing what we can to support our local businesses."
Krainik believes this will hurt anyone traveling from out of state too. She says August is a popular time because the weather is nice and people get to enjoy watching the Packers play ahead of the regular season.
"We track many people coming from out of state and even out of the country," she said.
Visit Green Bay hopes the NFL and the Packers can find a way to safely bring fans in to watch games. Safety is a priority for them. However, they say there will be a continued negative economic impact if fans cannot go to games.
