GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A Popeye's franchise has been proposed to take over the location that currently holds a long-standing Green Bay supper club.
The Green Bay Plan Commission on Monday approved a conditional use permit for SmitCo. Eateries, Inc., a Popeye's franchisee, to open a new location on the site of Wally's Spot, 1979 Main St., Green Bay.
This will be Green Bay's second Popeye's. The first location opened last October on West Mason Street. The massive number of cars that lined up during the franchise's opening day actually caused a traffic jam.
Paul Neumeyer, the city zoning administrator, confirmed with NBC 26 that an analysis indicates traffic is unlikely to be as high at the new location. Additionally, lobbies will be reopened by the time the second Popeye's opens, which will dilute drive-thru demand.
The City Council will consider approving the plans for the city's second Popeye's location at its June 29th meeting.
