New drivers find difficulty getting permit with DMV

SHERWOOD (WGBA) -- The Department of Motor Vehicles is closed for all services except for three: a commercial drivers license, and out of state license and a voter identification card. Everything else has been temporarily suspended.

This makes Tyler Duchow's aspiration of getting his license challenging. He just turned 15 and a half years old and passed the written test for his learner's permit. However, he cannot actually obtain that permit until he can visit the DMV in person, which is not possible right now.

"We have to go to the office in person," said Ann Duchow his mother. "We can't do that because the DMV closed for those types of things."

In Wisconsin, a person under 18 must have a learners permit for 6 months prior to getting a license. Duchow is waiting for his opportunity to practice driving. Due to COVID-19 closing the locations he can't do it.

"I am just eager to practice," Duchow said. "I am hoping to get a job when I get my license."

However that will have to wait.
