GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- It's been five years since the New Community Shelter in Green Bay started selling cheesy scarves, a hot item sold across the country and world.
In those 5 years, the New Community Shelter has sold nearly half a million dollars’ worth of cheesy scarves. Now, they're upping their game even more with cheesy headbands and mittens!
A crew of about 12 people work on making the cheesy business possible. Now that crew, and some sewing groups from local churches, are making the mittens and headbands as well. The crew was busy at work Sunday, cutting out the mittens, and sewing on some "Go Pack Go" slogans. Kari Watt with the New Community Shelter says the support from the community has been truly amazing and all the money stays with them.
"100 percent of the profits come back into the shelter,” said Watt. “We now own nine of our own embroidery machines and we do all the embroidery, everything in house with residents and community volunteers."
She also said the Packers are some of the many people with cheesy scarves. And anytime the players or their families come in, they get a cheesy scarf.
Now that they've added headbands and mittens, Watt says her goal is to raise a million dollars in cheesy sales and fill Lambeau.
