As we celebrate a huge milestone at NBC 26, we're turning back the clock to some memorable moments over the last 25 years, a few of which went viral. Many Packers fans no doubt remember the "Fail Mary" game of 2012. But did you know the next morning, we brought in our own replacements?
Meet producer Tom Legener:
He's been with NBC 26 for almost 20 years. While he's mainly been behind the camera and computer, his 'claim to fame' came in front of the camera on November 12th, 2012.
"What happened was, there was a horrible call with replacement referees, and it cost the Packers a game in Seattle against Seattle," Tom said. "It was just outrageous. I was upset and our meteorologist Brian Niznansky was upset about it.
So in a spontaneous, spur of the moment, no scripting decision, this happened:
After a message to the Huffington Post, who first picked up the story, Tom said it also, "ended up on CNN, Inside Edition, as well as Sports Center."
The video went viral gaining 1.4 million views. In which Tom jokingly added, they're all from him.
"It does seem like it was just a few days ago and sometimes it feels like it was yesterday," he said. In other ways, I'm glad the years have passed."
Tom is still working for NBC 26; he's currently our early evening producer. You can hear more about Tom's thoughts on the video and the 'weather man voice' in the video at the top of this page.
