The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the drivers involved in a fatal 2 semi-truck vs. car crash Friday morning on State Highway 57.
The Sheriff’s Office says semi-truck driver Michael Bartels, 60, of Pulaski was pronounced dead on scene. Semi-truck driver Mark Ebert, 50, of Whitelaw was not injured; and Alex Pingel, the driver of the car, and his wife received minor injuries, their 1-year-old child was not injured.
The crash happened Friday on STHWY 57 in the Town of Holland. Ebert was stopped and attempting to back into a water distribution station. Pingel was driving a small 4-door-vehicle and stopped behind him.
Ebert noticed Bartels driving closer than he expected and tried to pull forward, but was hit in the rear of the tanker which caused the driver side rear tires to land on the cab of Bartels semi-truck. The tanker then pushed Pingel’s vehicle into the ditch with the passenger side rear tires of the tanker on top of it.
The Pingel’s were treated at a local hospital and released. Ebert was not injured; and Bartels was pronounced dead on scene.
Deputies continue to investigate the crash.
