ASHWAUBENON (NBC 26) — Flight bookings for Memorial Day holiday travel increased this year, according to Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB).

GRB says there is a 46% increase in flights booked for Thursday and Friday this week.

“Nationally, there has been a steady increase in number of passengers being screened by TSA in the past two months, and Green Bay is following right in line with those trends,” said GRB Director Marty Piette. “Holiday travel will pick up starting Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday being especially busy."

Earlier this month, the Transportation Security Administration reported agents screened more than 1.7 million travelers at airports nationwide on May 7.

GRB reminds travelers that face masks are still required at airport terminals and airplanes. With hand washing and sanitizing also recommended, travelers can bring up to 12 oz. of hand sanitizer on board in their carry-on bag, GRB says.
