APPLETON (NBC 26) — Mile of Music's New Year’s Encore Eve will not go forward as planned this year due to COVID concerns, organizers announced Thursday.

"After serious and careful consideration by The Mile Team – in consultation with the Gibson Community Music Hall crew as well as other event collaborators – we’ve determined that not holding the New Year’s Encore Eve event on Friday night is the right decision at this time," a statement reads on Mile of Music's website.

Organizers cite the current surge in Omicron infections within the community and state as the reason for the cancellation.

In addition to a surge in Omicron cases, Mile of Music also cited more positive cases closer to their event team as well as the extended Mile Team than previous, with most of these just in the past few days.

Mile of Music also says they've heard directly from a number of ticket buyers in the last 2-3 days who have said that they were no longer comfortable attending because of concerns with the surging numbers.

Mile of Music says more information will follow for refunds to those who purchased tickets.
