APPLETON (NBC 26) — Mile of Music announced Monday it will return this August following a pandemic-related hiatus last year.

The music festival, held annually in Appleton, canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mile of Music organizers announced it will return this summer and will feature about 150 original music artists at this year's event, dubbed Mile 8.

One of the big adjustments for Mile 8 will be the shift of a significant amount of the music from indoor to outdoor, according to a news release announcing this year's event.

The festival’s managing director, Mike Van Thull of WME, said this year’s event will be roughly split between outdoor and indoor venues.

“Coming out of the pandemic, we feel this is the right modification for this year,” Van Thull said. “With more outside, we do become more susceptible to weather issues, but it’s intended as a one-year shift.”

In all, Mile 8 is expected to host nearly 650 live music sets over the four-day schedule with more than 150 artists and music education performers sharing their talents and teachings.

The first 50 artists for Mile 8 were announced Tuesday.
