APPLETON (NBC 26) — Masks will soon be optional at schools in the Appleton Area School District. The Appleton school board made the decision during a special meeting Thursday morning.

Starting February 28, face masks will become optional for elementary, middle, and high schools in the district.

Masks are still required for EC/4k students and staff. The district will also continue to require masks for all students on public or school transportation, citing a CDC order.

If the school district reaches a 2% threshold for COVID-positive student cases in schools, then the district will require face coverings for 14 days.
