MARINETTE COUNTY (NBC 26) — Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve announced Tuesday he will not seek a fourth term and will retire when his current term expires.

In a statement, Sauve said his decision to retire came after much thought. While his current term doesn't end until next year, Sauve made his announcement Tuesday in order to allow enough time for those interested in running for sheriff.

Sauve said he plans to be active and involved throughout his current term, which expires on Jan. 2, 2023. The sheriff's statement says he has served with the Marinette County Sheriff's Office for more than 38 years.

Sauve, who turns 64 this summer, said the timing to retire "seemed right."
