MANITOWOC (NBC 26) — A 43-year-old Manitowoc man is facing charges after a standoff with local SWAT, Manitowoc Police said Tuesday.
Police said officers responded to a home in the area of S. 14th St. and Division St. for a report of a person threatening to kill family members. According to police, witnesses told officers the man was in the residence, under the influence of drugs, and was stabbing numerous items in the house.
Police said the man was acting erratic, talking to himself, and damaging property with a knife. Police called in Manitowoc County SWAT.
After several hours of attempted negotiations, police said the man refused to communicate with negotiators on the scene, and would periodically yell threats towards the officers, would brandish knives, and then retreat into the house and appeared to be consuming more drugs.
Police said SWAT eventually used chemical agents to take the man into custody. Police said neither the man nor the officers were injured.
The man was arrested on charges related to domestic violence, drug possession, as well as making threats to law enforcement officers.
