TOWN OF BEECHER (NBC 26) — A man died Sunday after an ATV crash in the town of Beecher, the Marinette County Sheriff said.
Sheriff Jerry Sauve said that around noon on Sunday, Marinette County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an ATV had crashed into a rock and trees on private property off Park Street and Smeester School Road in the town of Beecher.
According to a statement from the sheriff, the caller reported the ATV had accelerated quickly out of a garage and crashed into the rock and trees at a significant speed. The Sheriff said the man operating the ATV was thrown from the crash and the ATV landed on top of him.
Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead at the scene by the assistant Marinette County Medical Examiner, the sheriff said.
The man was identified as 68-year-old Michael J. Heritsch of Greenfield. The incident remains under investigation.
