OUTAGAMIE COUNTY (NBC 26) — Authorities are investigating several reports of mail being stolen throughout Outagamie County.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office says it has found evidence of this happening in Appleton and other areas.
Oftentimes, the sheriff's office says the suspects are pulling up to mailboxes along the road and taking both outgoing and incoming mail. These thefts are occurring at all hours of the day.
The sheriff's office encourages all residents to report any suspicious vehicles approaching mailboxes. Also, residents are encouraged to not place outgoing mail in their mailbox if possible. Residents should drop their mail in USPS boxes whenever possible. Several victims have suffered identity theft as part of these thefts.
The Sheriff’s Office would also encourage residents to sign up for United States Postal Service Informed Delivery. With this service mail recipients will also receive a daily email showing what mail they should expect in their mailbox. This can be found at www.USPS.com by clicking “Informed Delivery” in the top right corner of the website.
Anyone seeing a suspicious vehicle approaching mailboxes should call 920-832-5000 immediately. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Sgt. John Schuette at 920-832-2188 or by email at John.Schuette@Outagamie.org.
