GREEN BAY (NBC26)- You could be paying less to heat your home this winter compared to last season.

Local energy companies are predicting a decline in your energy bill. This drop in heating costs is based off of current natural gas price rates and the winter weather predictions. We Energies tells us their customers could see 11% off of their bills, which equals about $58 in savings over the winter. A spokesman from Wisconsin Public Service says their customers could pay about 4% less, which equals about $28; that’s about 4 to 5 cups of coffee at Starbucks or 9 to 10 gallons of gas right now.

This is not the only way you can save money when you turn on your heat. Matt Cullen, a WPS spokesman, says one of the primary things you can do is a have a professional inspection. He also shared a few more tips.

“Opening up window coverings that you have in your home, allowing sunlight in, to naturally heat your home at no charge,” Cullen said. “You can also set your thermostat back 7-10 degrees when you're asleep or away from home.”

If someone does need help paying for their energy this winter, they can also check out the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.

Ashwaubenon’s Lead Fire Inspector, Dan Peterson, is also reminding you to have a working carbon monoxide detector on all levels of your home, to help protect you and your family.
