GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — With almost 10 years of experience up her sleeve, Green Bay native Olive Galiano is an artist. Well, a spray tan artist, that is.
"So I quit all my jobs one day," Gailano, owner of OG Sunless Studio and professional spray tan artist, said. "I went to California and I got three certifications to start, I wanted the best training that I could possibly get."
Galiano traveled up and down the California coast alone training with the professional artists, those who keep actresses and influencers glowing all year long. The products she uses on her clients in Wisconsin are the products used by Kim Kardashian. Instead of staying in the over-saturated California spray tan market, Galiano decided to bring her talents back home. She says she knew it was something missing from the area. It'll be three years next March since OG opened, and since that day, Galiano has been busy. So much so, she's expanded her space and hired on her first two employees.
"Olive got into the niche at the perfect time," Sadee Steen, one of OG's first employees, said. "It is totally untapped potential here. And what she does, she does like no one else does.”
For Galiano, she said the transition to hiring was hard. OG was her baby, and putting the work on other people's shoulders was difficult. Now, though, she says she loves training and loves having the "OG girls" to work with every day.
“I had to kind of come to terms very quickly that I couldn't continue doing everything myself," Galiano said. "And it was much better for my clientele to get some help in here.”
Even more than spray tans, OG offers an experience that you won't find at other tanning salons. For one, no tanning beds. All the work is done by hand with airbrush machines. Second, Galiano wants her customers to understand the fake tanning process, so the color looks as good as possible for a long time.
“We just kind of make sure everybody who comes in here understand sunless tanning to like the fullest extent, how it works, preparation, aftercare,” Galiano said.
But one of the best parts is the "Spray Tan Bar" with a medley of colors, formulas, and tones, customized to every person's skin tone.
"I do have various monster solutions, and we 100% customize it for everyone who comes in here every single time," Galiano said. "Everyone's skin is different, so we like to keep an array of solutions on hand for everybody.”
With wedding season in full swing, OG is packed. Customers need to book online, sometimes up to a month in advance. Galiano wants to keep expanding so the business can offer walk-ins, and her clientele can get a tan whenever they want. Just as fast as she's grown, so have her clients. There's a reason why people keep coming back. When you're here, you feel like you're hanging out with your best friends.
“The energy here is very welcoming, and we're very protective of it," Steen said. "So she [Galiano] won't let anyone in here, any workers in here who have anything negative to say or don't love the human bodies, who maybe don't really make you feel so welcomed and warm and bubbly when you come in.”
