ASHWAUBENON (NBC 26) — Norway, Pakistan and Chile.
These are all flags you can find at Fly Me Flag on Ashland Avenue. But, there's one you can't find right now, and that's the Ukrainian flag, not because they don't sell it, but because it's always sold out.
“Historically, Ukraine isn't even a flag that we've had in stock,” said Stacey Stewart, the owner of Fly Me Flag.
All it took was the request of one customer for Stewart to see that this was going to be a hot seller. She started with a small order, but quickly decided to bring in more.
“We're so used to seeing the American flag, but when you see a different country flag flown, it catches your eye," said Stewart. "It's something different.”
NBC 26 was at the shop for an hour, and in that time, three customers came in to pick up Ukrainian flags. Most are pre-ordered in the dozens. Some customers are waiting three weeks to get their flags.
“Can’t go fight, this is my way of showing support for the people,” said Thomas Sharp, one of the many customers who purchased a flag on this day.
Stewart explains the flags colors symbolize blue skies over golden wheat fields, while also the blue representing calm, and the gold representing joy.
“It is the hope of those flying this flag that calm and joy will be restored to the people of Ukraine,” said Stewart.
You can keep up to date with the shop's Facebook pageto get updates on when orders are coming in.
