APPLETON, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Protests have been happening across the country in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Demonstrations are planned for Saturday and Sunday in the Fox Valley.

A march is planned for Saturday starting at 2 P.M. in Appleton. According to a Facebookpage, it will start at 1010 W. College Avenue.

A protest is planned for Sunday at Houdini Plaza in Appleton starting at 5 P.M.

"When I first saw the video of George Floyd being held down by the white cop in Minneapolis, that hurt my heart. I started to cry. It hurt my heart to see the racial injustice happening before my eyes as it has before, unfortunately," said Jeff Messer, the organizer of Sunday's protest.

Messer added that violence and other negative actions will not be permitted at the protest.

"There's so much anger, and there's so much emotion bubbling up and coming out within us. However, I believe all the protests need to be peaceful," said Messer.

Charles Butler, a pastor at Breakthrough Covenant Church in Appleton, said he plans to attend the protest.

"For us here in the Fox Valley, to have rallies and marches and panel discussions and things along those lines, I'm excited for that to see how it can start to raise awareness here in our community so these things aren't happening here in Appleton and the surrounding cities," added Butler.

Messer said protesters and demonstrators are asked to bring gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer. They're also asked to respect people's space.
