Local health leaders are urging women to get their yearly mammograms even if they've been recently vaccinated for COVID-19.
According to ThedaCare, a recent study showed some women developed swollen lymph nodes after vaccination, which could lead to false-positive test results.
“We really are encouraging our community members not to delay screenings of any type and so for our women over the age of 40, talking to their primary care provider about what their screening guidelines should be and getting back to annual mammograms,” explained Dr. Shaneli Fernando, the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center Radiation Oncologist.
They went on to stress that early detection of cancer can lead to better health outcomes.
