APPLETON (NBC 26) -- A local girl is giving back after her battle with cancer.
Twelve-year-old Kiara Sanders of Appleton has endured surgeries and chemotherapy for four years, but now her cancer is stable.
To celebrate, she and her family are partnering with the Resilience Gives Socks with Stories initiative and selling a pair of socks that she designed to help other children who are battling cancer.
"I chose the ice cream theme because at one of the camps I've been to, the hole in the wall gang camp, after every meal they played a song,” said Sanders. “It was called 'Ice cream and cake' and it was a really fun song that reminds me of a good time."
For every pair of socks sold, another pair is donated. The goal is to give 10,000 pairs of non-slip socks to children in hospitals across the nation.
