GREEN BAY - APPLETON (WGBA) -- Local doctors from ThedaCare and Bellin Health are advising people to still practice social distancing and use good hygiene while counties lift restrictions.
"I have been a doctor for over 30 years and I have never seen anything like this," said Dr. Paul Casey from Bellin Health. "What this virus does to people is amazing."
He reiterates a lot of information that is common knowledge. He says people should still practice social distancing, because Wisconsin's case counts are still rising. Dr. Casey said the virus is still very contagious.
"This virus we think is most contagious two to three days before people develop symptoms," Dr. Casey said. "You can be in the same room as someone and the virus is spread in the air and then you're infected."
Both him and Dr. Jennifer Frank from ThedaCare say re-opening bars and restaurants could lead to an increase in cases. They said there is nothing stopping cases from spiking after the cure is flattened out.
"Unfortunately we are still positive cases in Wisconsin and not seeing that steady decline we need for places to open back up," Dr. Frank said.
The supreme court overturned the Safer at Home order. Now counties are also rescinding the orders and businesses are starting to re open. However, both doctors want to warn people the virus is still around and can spread fast.
"If we let each person go around and spend time with each other, each person infected can infect anywhere between 2.5 and 5 people," Dr. Frank said.
Which is why they say if anyone does plan on going out, follow the social distancing rules.
"We can't just go out and avoid masks and get together with 100 people and think everything is going to be fine," Dr. Casey said. "One person can infect a large amount of people."
