APPLETON, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the first case of coronavirus spreading human-to-human in the United States. That person is the husband of a Chicago woman who got sick after she came back from a trip to China.
Health officials say it's still unclear exactly how easily the virus spreads from person to person.
Dr. Mark Cockley is the ThedaCare Chief Clinical Officer and President of the Clinically Integrated Network. He said he doesn't believe people should be any more concerned about the coronavirus as other illnesses that are spread the same way.
"I don't think, right now, we have a lot of extra worry in the United States. Obviously, where people have been infected, they're taking precautions there in preventing the spread," said Dr. Cockley.
He also said people should be careful around those who are sick and have a fever or cough. He added that it's important to wash hands as well.
Dr. Cockley also reminded us that there are several other illnesses out there that can make people sick with similar symptoms, so it's important to take those steps to stay healthy.
