GRAND CHUTE (NBC 26) — Outagamie County law enforcement is announcing a training that is happening at the mall this Sunday, Feb. 14.
The Outagamie County Sheriff's Office said the annual training was planned ahead of time, before the fatal shooting that occurred Jan. 31 in the mall's food court.
While the active training will occur after the mall has closed, and all patrons and employees have left, it is likely officers and police vehicles will be present at the mall prior to closing, the Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities want the public to be aware of the training and not to be alarmed. The Outagamie County Emergency Response Team, which is conducting the training, consists of officers from multiple agencies within the County. Squads from all of these agencies may be present.
The Sheriff's Office said the training is critical for officers to maintain a familiarity with the Fox River Mall complex and to plan a response to critical incidents.
