NEENAH (NBC 26) — When we think of basic needs, food, water and shelter come to mind. For families in need, diapers are also a necessity.
Since 2011, Jake's Network of Hope has been meeting this community need, providing diapers to our local community and beyond.
“If a baby does not have diapers, the parent cannot send them to childcare," said Katie Kilsdonk, Program Manager. "It's also a health concern if you're keeping a baby in the same diaper all day long because you don't have enough money.”
This holiday season, the nonprofit's goal is to raise $30,000. Jake's will be having a series of events to raise awareness, including a Donor Match Week and a Core Hygiene Drive.
“When it's the holidays and there's all this social pressure to do the things that everybody else does for the holidays, to watch the movies and bake the cookies and do all the things, not having to worry about am I going to be able to afford diapers for my child, or am I going to be able to go to the store and buy the incontinent supplies that I need so I can spend time with my family, or whatever other basic need that is eating into their budget, just frees up a little bit of that and holidays can be stressful. So if you take one little piece of the stress puzzle out it gets just a little bit easier," said Kilsdonk.
