GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (NBC26) -- Some are questioning how something like this could happen.
"It almost sounds like something out of a movie," Fox River Mall shopper and Sheboygan resident Danika Lohr said. "That's so scary."
And many are shocked.
"I just kept listening to the radio because I was really curious on what was happening," Appleton resident Blake Demaray said. "And I heard every single cop in the area was like going to the mall. And I was like 'this must be something major.'"
After Sunday afternoon's shooting that left one man dead at the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, Northeast Wisconsinites are horrified.
"It's almost like I cant wrap my head around it, because I would never think that that would happen here," Lohr said.
Lohr came to shop at Fox River on Monday and didn't realize it was closed. And she couldn't believe a shooting could happen at one of her favorite malls.
"This is the mall that I came to growing up with my mom all the time," Lohr said. "So I've been to this mall a lot of times and I had no idea."
And one man says he knows incidents like this are a possibility.
"You know it could happen anywhere; any point," Demaray said. "That's just how it is these days."
But he didn't think it was a possibility in Northeast Wisconsin.
"In this little town of Appleton," Demaray said. "It's crazy stuff."
Though they say it'll leave a lasting mark, the mall shoppers aren't worried.
"I think it sounds like a pretty isolated incident... hopefully," Sheboygan resident Jeremiah Scheidt said. "It doesn't sound like that happens often around here. That's why it's pretty intense."
