OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month!
It's a time to celebrate all the amazing cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes at area animal shelters and possibly consider making a senior pet your new best friend.
Joni Geiger, executive director at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, said they consider a senior cat to be at least 10 years old. She said senior dogs are 8 years old and up.
"We do see a number of seniors that come through and we are really fortunate how our community responds," Geiger said. "And many people do adopt the seniors. So that is really great."
Geiger said many senior pets are accustomed to being in a home and tend to adapt quickly to new surroundings.
