FOND DU LAC, Wis. — The Fond du Lac Fire Department said an illegal fire burned an acre of dry vegetation on Friday.
Officials say the fire was caused by a resident who was burning cardboard in a fire pit in the rear of his property.
Hot embers from the fire extended to the dry vegetation and which stared the field on fire near Whispering Springs Drive.
The very dry weather conditions, low humidity and strong winds make any outside burning dangerous”, said Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.
