MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) — Manitowoc County authorities are releasing more information regarding a crash that killed a 9-year-old girl.
A news release from the Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig revealed Tuesday that the driver in the crash is 51-year-old Monica Michelle Walker from Manitowoc. After she was cleared at a hospital following the crash, she was taken to Manitowoc County Jail for homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and operating after revocation - causing death.
The girl who died in the crash has been identified as 9-year-old Tkyia J. Brewer. The Sheriff's news release said she was Walker's granddaughter. The news release also said the child wasn't wearing a seat belt. Manitowoc County Coroner Curt Green said the preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma.
The crash remains under investigation.
Monica Walker appeared via Zoom for a bond hearing this afternoon. A judge set $10,000 cash bail for Walker. If released, she is not to operate motor vehicle, must maintain absolute sobriety and is ordered not to travel outside the state of Wisconsin. Her initial appearance is set for Feb. 15.
