MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) — Authorities consider icy road conditions a factor in a fatal crash Friday morning. The Manitowoc County Sheriff stated in a news release that a 70-year-old woman died following the crash.
Deputies and EMS responded around 4:44 a.m. Friday to a crash on Hillcrest Road, east of Highway T, within the town of Franklin. The sheriff's office said a Whitelaw woman was driving a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer eastbound on Hillcrest Road when she lost control. The SUV left the roadway and entered a ditch, where it overturned. The sheriff's statement said the woman was thrown from the vehicle.
Despite attempts at life-saving efforts from deputies and first responders, the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
While the crash is under investigation, the sheriff said icy road conditions are considered a factor in the crash. The sheriff reminds the public to be aware of icy road conditions, especially during the spring season, and always wear their seat belt.
