GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- This can be a scary and lonely time for residents at senior living facilities. Some have to stay in their rooms for the time being in hopes of keeping everyone healthy and safe.
At Moraine Ridge Senior Living, residents aren't able to do some of the things they're used to like going out to lunch with friends or doing different activities with other residents. One residents said she misses playing bingo and a card game after supper. Another resident wrote her friend a letter because of how much she misses her. Family members have been visiting residents through the windows, and everyone has had to keep their distance. However, many community members have been stepping up to help residents pass the time.
"Writing letters, drawing pictures. We have families that are donating crossword puzzles, adult coloring books, puzzles, things that residents can do on their own," said Abby Zellner the life enrichment manager.
They are encouraging people to continue sending little notes or gifts to the residents to help brighten their days.
"It's just a nice thing, a gesture, nice gesture that they do," said Pat Laluzerne, one of the residents. "Makes me feel special."
The residents are also writing letters to residents in other facilities to remind them they are all in this together.
"Telling our feelings and getting to know them. Hopefully we hear back," added Laluzerne.
If you would like to send something to a resident at Moraine Ridge Senior Living, you can send it to this address: 2929 St Anthony Dr, Green Bay, WI 54311.
Another resident, Elsie Caldie wrote a song about coronavirus. You can watch her singing it out her window here.
