DE PERE (NBC 26) — Mother’s Day is here, and for many, this is an opportunity to celebrate mom and any other maternal figures in people’s lives.

Many on Sunday morning through the early afternoon gathered at Chicago Street Pub, Grill & Banquets in De Pere for a celebration brunch.

For many, this meant celebrating Mother’s Day for the first time since 2019, pre-pandemic. A year ago, many families were still in quarantine and unable to celebrate with their loved ones.

However, with the roll out of vaccinations, more families are now feeling more comfortable to be out and about.

“We’ve seen a lot of families that are coming which is awesome. Starting to see people get together with families they probably haven’t seen in a while. So there have been lots of hugs and embraces. Good to see again,” said Austin DeCleene, Chicago Street Pub, Grill & Banquets manager.

For one Wrightstown mother, she came to celebrate this day with her two children, Jordy, 11, and Hannah, 14.

“We started off getting our nails done. My daughter brought me out for that, and now we are meeting family here out for brunch, then we are going to be going to Bay Beach,” said Renee Finer.

Mother and Daughter

She said Mother’s Day means the world to her not only as a mother herself, but as she gets to honor her mom, step-mom, and mother-in-law.

“I have the greatest mom and I’ve got the greatest step-mom too. They’ve done nothing but give me everything I need in life, love, and everything else. Means a lot to me,” Finer said.

Finer describes her relationship with her own mom as tight-knit, saying she hopes one day as her daughter gets older they can aspire to have a relationship like they do.

“My mom has always been her best friend, my shopping buddy. I call her every day. I would like that relationship with my daughter too. I would like for her when she grows up, she can look at me as her best friend too,” Finer said.

And that is certainly looking to be the case, her 14-year-old daughter Hannah already spoiling her this Mother’s Day.

"Just wanted to do something for her so I told her we could get our nails done so me and her got like matching colors. We got bright pink together," said Hannah Finer. "Some people are always like ugh I don’t want to hangout with my parents or whatever. But I don’t know. I think it’s a lot of fun.”

DeCleen said today their restaurant had a really good brunch turn out compared to last year when they only had take-out available. However, he said the numbers from Sunday still are low compared to a normal pre-Covid year.

Chicago Street Pub, Grill & Banquets had their brunch special all morning.
