GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Mother’s Day is here and for many this is an opportunity to celebrate mom and any other maternal figures in our lives.
Families took advantage of the Green Bay Botanical Gardens' free admission for Mother's Day.
"Our mothers have done a lot of stuff for us and we appreciate what our mothers have done for us throughout our entire journey and have made us who we are today,” said 12-year-old Isla Xiong.
It was the perfect excuse to stroll through the gardens and spend quality time with mom.
“I have three children and having the time in-person to spend with them is really important to show that moms are human beings too,” said Lisa Willi, a Green Bay mother.
NBC 26 spoke with a few children who shared some of the things that made their moms special.
"She just takes care of me and I really love her. I just love cuddling on the couch with her sometime,” said one child.
"She's kind and she plays with me. She likes to play with Legos sometimes,” said another child.
Moms we spoke to said they're grateful to be able to spend the day with their children.
"I'm very lucky that my kids are healthy and I teach them to be respectful and to love each other. To study a lot. I think it's wonderful to be a mom and to have my parents with me,” said Patty Bergner, a Pulaski mother.
"I have seven other siblings and we all take a role at looking after each other's kids. And like they say it takes a village to raise a child,” said Meige Vang, another mother.
And while mom is often taking care of everyone else, most little ones agreed that it was the perfect day for moms to be able to focus on themselves.
