GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is hanging wreaths for the 2019 "Holiday Wreath Program," running from Thanksgiving Day to January 1st of 2020.
This public awareness campaign starts off with the wreath's lights being all green. With every residential fire Green Bay Metro responds to, one light will be changed to red.
Their goal: to keep the wreaths ALL green this season.
The Department says this is not to celebrate the residential fires but to educate people on fire safety.
On average they respond to anywhere between 13 to 17 fires during the season. They say this is mostly because of careless cooking.
According to the Department, a wreath will be hung on every Green Bay Fire Department station with the hope that it will remind everyone to have a safe holiday season.
