Hilly Haven Golf Course has something new for folks to try this winter.
Their new fat tire bike trails are groomed and ready for riding.
There are a variety of winter activities to enjoy at Hilly Haven Golf Course.
They have cross country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking and now fat tire biking.
"It's a really fun experience," said Charlie Deske, the co-owner and grounds superintendent at Hilly Haven Golf Course. "It's a combination of skiing and biking put together just because of the interesting ways the bike handles in the snow."
The bike trails are separate from the ski trails.
You can choose from three different routes.
"It's not as wide. We groom it a little bit narrower and we have to compact it a lot because the bikes are a wide tire," said Demske. "It can still sink through the snow."
The trail-head is located just off the parking lot across from the clubhouse.
There are signs clearly indicating the difference between the ski trails and the bike trails.
"It has been allowing us to be open year round keeping some key employees employed all year long," said Kristin Stelzer, the general manager at Hilly Haven.
Trails are open 7 days a week.
Kids under the age of 15 are free with a paid adult.
Dogs are welcome to come out and enjoy the trails as well.
"The only thing you need to bring with you is a helmet," said Stelzer
"You get to see the neat wooded scenery and we have waterfalls on the golf course as well," said Demske. "It's really beautiful when it freezes."
The tires are studded and 4 inches wide. It is perfect for floating over the top of the snow on the groomed trails.
If you're hoping to hit some hills for an extra challenge, don't worry you're at Hilly Haven Golf Course.
It's a fantastic option for anyone looking to get out and enjoy a good old fashioned winter in Wisconsin.
They have two fat tire bikes available for rent inside the clubhouse.
Trail fees are on the honor system through a drop box outside the clubhouse.
