GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Even though gatherings are limited to less than 10 people during the coronavirus outbreak, Gather on Broadway is adapting their deliverables to fit inside social distancing guidelines.
Small business are hit especially hard while most of America isolates from public life, and Gather on Broadway is no exception. As a wedding and event venue, they're living on deposits that could be forsaken if events are canceled rather than postponed.
"Our motto here is 'memorable experiences happen here,' but obviously we can't do that now," Executive Chef and owner Jyll Everman explains. "So it's 'memorable experiences happen at home!'"
When looking at the resources and talent they had in house, Everman decided to make their freshest and most reliable resource -- food -- available for customers.
"We have a really popular cooking class that I do every other week," Everman said. "We wanted to find a way to pick that up, bring it in to your house, so that way you have something to do. You can do it with your family, and then you have all of the meal kit in front of you that's been pre-shopped and pre-measured for you."
For $50, a Quarantine Cuisine meal kit gives you eight servings of a pre-measured meal kit, kid-friendly recipe card, one-on-one video instruction, with the option to add on desserts or alcoholic beverages and accompanying donation of a meal to one of Gather's part time staffers with each purchase.
These kits are available for curbside pickup by appointment. Gather made 40 Quarantine Cuisine kits that quickly sold out last week, so they plan on offering 60 this week as well.
"We're seeing people buy bags and say 'we don't need them but my neighbors do,' or donating them," Everman said. "Everyone has been so generous! So this week, we're launching a new menu and we're going to make more, because we ran out last week."
With eight portions for the $50 price tag, that calculates to $6.25 price per meal serving, that Everman markets as great for families or singles to freeze their leftovers.
