GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- A Green Bay Police K9 dog who survived a stabbing during an arrest has now been inducted into the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association Pet Hall of Fame.

Police say K9 Pyro was inducted in the Hero category this year. Each year three pets from Wisconsin are inducted in the companion, professional and hero categories, police say.

"Pyro was chosen for the role he played in an apprehension where all the people came away uninjured," police stated in a Facebook post on Monday.

The ceremony was held in Madison.

Pyro was injured after police used him to subdue a suspect, identified as Sai Vang, back in April. Police responded to the home where Vang lived after authorities say he had threatened to shoot his father and responding police officers.

Police say Vang stabbed Pyro while the dog was biting him. Pyro was rushed to an animal hospital and Vang was subdued with a Taser.

Pyro recovered and returned to full duty in May.
