GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Green Bay Police are providing details about a shooting incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon.
Police said officers responded to reports of shots being fired at about 2:18 p.m. in the area of the 1200 block of University Avenue.
According to police, witnesses stated that a male subject was shooting at a car in the alleyway. Additional information was that one vehicle sped away from the area. Police said the male shooter then got into a different vehicle and left the area as well.
Officers found evidence of a shooting and requested additional officers. Area hospitals were contacted and asked to inform police if any shooting victims arrived. During a canvass of the area, the subject’s vehicle was located nearby.
According to a police statement, detectives discovered a video camera that showed the suspect entering an apartment on Harvey Street and never leave. A perimeter was set up around the apartment and the police department's armored personnel carrier was brought to the scene to assist.
Police said officers made announcements from their Bearcat for anyone inside to exit the residence. Eventually, the subject exited voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident or injury.
During a subsequent search of the apartment, police said officers found the gun believed to have been used in the incident along with a large amount of marijuana. Charges have been referred to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for one man at this time.
Police said the firearm recovered was a FN 5.7x28. This handgun fires a rifle-type cartridge, according to police.
In all, 22 Green Bay Police Department Officers and Detectives responded to this incident. The initial response to this call took more than five hours to resolve. Police said detectives are continuing to investigate and have identified other people that need to be interviewed.
