GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — In a video address on Facebook, Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith announced he's retiring later this year.

The video was posted Tuesday on the Green Bay Police's official Facebook page. In a comment under the video, the department says Chief Smith will retire May 3 from GBPD. He has been in law enforcement since 1988.

Chief Smith says he came to the Green Bay Police Department five years ago. He had previously worked in Los Angeles.

"I'm finishing 33 years in law enforcement," Chief Smith said. "It's been a terrific opportunity and terrific experience."

Chief Smith said the next chief of police will be selected by the Police and Fire Commission, per state policy.
