GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Green Bay Packaging unveiled its new recycled paper mill Thursday morning.
"There has not been a new mill built in Wisconsin in over 35 years until today," said Bob Mihalski, director of continuous improvement for Green Bay Packaging. "So we can proudly say, today on June 17th, 2021, that Green Bay Packaging is the most recent paper mill to be built in Wisconsin and we are definitely proud of that."
The new recycled fiber plant uses scrap boxes to make new paper. The mill has new boilers that have been switched from coal to natural gas and a new water treatment plant that cleans the water before it gets sent out for more cleaning.
"This is a major, major undertaking for us," said Will Kress, chairman and CEO of Green Bay Packaging. "It's a huge project, it strains things a little bit, but it's a long term project and we're happy to be able to build this in Green Bay, Wisconsin."
The new plant puts out zero discharge into the Fox River.
