GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — When winter snows pile up, and seconds count for firefighters, you and your kids can make a difference.

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Green Bay Water Utility are once again launching their Hydro's Helpers program, where kids can lend a hand to their local fire department.

Children pick a fire hydrant near their home and pledge to keep it free of snow during the winter months. They will also be responsible for reporting any damages to the hydrant to their local Water Department. You must reside in the City of Green Bay, Village of Allouez, or the Village of Bellevue to participate in the program.

For their hard work and dedication to their hydrant, participants will receive a certificate of appreciation and attend an ice cream social event. Details for the ice cream social event will be given at a later date.
