GREEN BAY (NBC26) — With Green Bay Metro On Demand, finding a ride is just a click or call away. By using a mobile app or calling a phone number, users can book a ride instead of waiting for the bus.
“Our average response time is about twenty minutes," said Patricia Kiewiz, the transit director of Green Bay Metro."It literally shows you what time you can expect that trip to be there so you can watch in real time if you have a smartphone.”
Starting August 2nd, GBM is expanding its microtransit service to include four new service zones in De Pere, Ashwaubenon, and the East and West side of Green Bay.
The service zones are located at Green Bay Plaza, Bay Park Square, South Webster Avenue in Allouez, and Walmart East. Users can travel from zone to zone or use transfer points to take the fixed route service.
"You can travel from zone to zone and just stay in a micro transit vehicle. However, if you are in one of those zones and you need to say come downtown you would go to one of those transfer points and then the fixed route service would bring you downtown,” Kiewiz said.
Green Bay Metro is also expanding its fixed route service. While currently transit times are about 60 minutes, Kiewiz says the changes will cut that time in half.
"All of these transfer points will have fixed route bus service every thirty minutes,” Kiewiz said.
In addition, the microtransit service will now be available Monday- Friday from 8:45 p.m - 10:45 p.m across the entire service area. Kiewiz says this change will accommodate more rider's schedules, especially those who rely on public transportation to get to work late at night.
"We’ve had riders that have had to go to work two hours early prior to because we didn't have that later night service. So I think this is really exciting for them," Kiewiz said.
GBM On Demand is the same price as a traditional Green Bay Metro bus pass. Riders can pay for a GBM On Demand day pass directly through the app with a credit card, cash, or use a Green Bay Metro day pass, weekly or monthly pass.
Daytime service hours run from 5:45 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. Monday - Friday, and 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
