GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Police and Fire Commission held its first listening session with members of the public to find out what qualities the community wants to see in the next police chief.

The commission is working to find a replacement for retired chief Andrew Smith.

"The majority of the people that we're working with in this community have substance abuse disorders and mental health disorders," Green Bay resident Christopher Zahn said at Thursday's meeting. "And we need to see a continuation of those services."

The next community input meeting takes place on July 6 at noon via Zoom.

The commission says there are 11 applicants from across the country vying to become Green Bay's new chief.
