GREEN BAY (NBC26) — The Green Bay Botanical Garden is hoping to raise as much as they can, but they do have a specific goal that would be great to reach: $25,000 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Garden.

“Our mission is to connect people and plants in an environment that inspires, engages and refreshes, said Cindy Berton, Development Director for the Garden.

The botanical garden is not just a resource for experienced gardeners to get inspiration, said Berton.

“Maybe you’re experiencing some challenges in life," she said. "And you just need some quiet reflective space.”

The funds raised during these 24 hours will help the garden fund educational programming and quality events, like the nationally traveling exhibit coming this summer called ‘Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea,' featuring pieces made from plastic taken from oceans, lakes and waterways.

“From Stanley the sturgeon, to a big penguin and a shark," said Berton, "It’ll really give visitors from throughout Wisconsin and beyond an opportunity to just come and experience the garden in a new way.”

You can choose your own amount to give to the Garden, or you can select a specific amount:

  • $10 donation: help the garden buy new plants
  • $25: provide supplies to remove harmful plants
  • $100: fund ten hours of in-the-field experience for interns
  • $250: sponsor 55 children to have a hands on nature trip at the Garden
  • $500: improve accessibility for everyone
  • $1,000: update technology to ensure the Garden will best serve the community

“For all of us, it’s a rallying of the community to really support local nonprofits that make a tremendous impact here in brown county," said Berton.
