HOWARD (NBC 26) -- — Today is Labor Day. But to golfers at Thornberry Creek, today is also 'Patriot Golf Day.'

The course held a beat-the-pros'-shot contest; for a 10 dollar donation, golfers tried to make their first tee shot within 15 feet of the pin.
All of the proceeds went to Folds of Honor, a charity that provides scholarships to spouses and children of fallen and disabled service members.

"It's something as a veteran myself that I can definitely get behind, and I really appreciate that Thornberry creek is supporting that organization," said Matthew Thomson, a U.S. Air Force veteran. "To be able to give back to those families who may not have the resources and have maybe fallen on hard times because their service member has fallen, to be able to help them, bring them back on their feet."

The winner from today gets a free round of golf on the Champion's Course.
