APPLETON (NBC 26) — We've had Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but today is a day for giving back.
It's GivingTuesday, a day created to inspire people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
Suggested ways of giving back include reaching out to the elderly, paying things forward or showing gratitude for essential workers.
And a thoughtful donation can go a long way.
"$1 equals 4 meals which also translates to $1 equals to $10 in groceries, so we can really do more with donations than an individual could," said Patti Habeck, president and CEO of Feeding America - Eastern Wisconsin. "So, we ask for donations and purchase the nutritious food that's needed during this time, and we make sure that it reaches the food pantries, meal programs or emergency shelters that are helping our neighbors in need."
"This is our Food for the Holidays time when we do a big push to raise money and food so that we can make sure that all our neighbors in need have food for the holidays," Habeck said.
According to USA Today, more than $2.5 billion was donated in 2020 on Giving Tuesday.
