UPDATE: Gibraltar Area School District closed Monday due to a fire on the roof of the middle school gym.
In an updated Facebook post, Gibraltar Area Schools said a large amount of snow/ice fell off the roof of the middle school gym and damaged a propane line on the roof, which leaked into the HVAC unit and ignited a fire. As a result, officials said, there was a lot of smoke within the school.
Most of the smoke and odors have been cleared from the building at this point, but the District is still working on odors in the middle school gym. Gibraltar Area Schools said most after-school activities are moving forward for Monday evening.

State Highway 42 was closed Monday morning for about an hour due to that fire, but has reopened.
According to the Door County Sheriff's Office, a message will be sent out to staff, parents, and students to notify them of the closure.
