GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Georgia-Pacific announced Thursday that it will make significant investments, which total more than $500 million, at its Green Bay Broadway mill. The Atlanta-based company said the investment is expected to grow its retail consumer tissue and towel business.

The company states in a news release that investments in the Green Bay mill include building a new paper machine using through-air-dried technology, as well as adding associated converting equipment and infrastructure. Engineering and related work is beginning immediately, with the startup of the new machine scheduled for the first half of 2024.

Georgia-Pacific says about 150 jobs will be created to operate the new papermaking complex, in addition to the mill’s 850 current employees. The project will have as many as 500 construction and contract-related workers onsite at the mill, fluctuating with the project timeline.

The Green Bay Broadway mill currently operates seven paper machines and a number of converting operations to make bath tissue, paper towels, napkins and facial tissue for both retail and away-from-home uses.

Brands manufactured by Georgia-Pacific include Quilted Northern, Angel Soft, Brawny, Dixie, enMotion, Sparkle and Vanity Fair.
