MANITOWOC (NBC 26) — A garage is a total loss and the home it's connected to was damaged after a fire Sunday afternoon.
The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department said it happened on the 1000 block of N. 40th Street.
The department said someone walking in the neighborhood noticed the fire, and a neighbor across the street called it in. When crews arrived, a large plume of heavy black smoke could be seen. Firefighters worked quickly to put the fire out; however the garage and its contents is a complete loss.
No one was injured; everyone had evacuated before crews arrived. One firefighter was treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion.
The cause is still under investigation.
