GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Foxconn, a global technology manufacturer out of Taiwan, was expected to add up to 300 jobs to Green Bay's economy in the summer of 2018. But the Innovation Center they established in downtown Green Bay still sits vacant.
On Wednesday at NWTC in Green Bay, Foxconn had a job fair trying to recruit local talent to fill a handful of potential positions.
NWTC expected about 50 students to apply for jobs today for a career at Foxconn. But company leaders of the tech manufacturer are still refusing to go on camera and say whether the jobs these students are applying for are indeed for positions exclusively to the green bay area. NWTC's president, Jeff Rafn, said while he doesn't have that answer, he does think that a position at Foxconn is a great opportunity if it opens in Green Bay.
"Get in on the ground floor and the opportunities are almost limitless. Because you may start out at an entry level, but you'll be able to move up very quickly because you're the first employee, you'll be getting that first training,” Rafn said.
On Wednesday, Foxconn provided NBC 26 with this statement, saying that this job would allow students, "The ability to stay local with their families while they earn and learn and stay on campus, work at the nearest Foxconn location or Wisconsin valley innovation center.”
Even with that statement, Foxconn has still not laid out any details as to when or if they plan on opening a facility downtown Green Bay.
