FISH CREEK, Wis. (NBC 26) -- A group of former Gibraltar High School students will be featured on Friday's episode of Encore! on Disney+.
The show brings together former cast mates of a high school musical.
The group of students performed "High School Musical" in 2007, a year after the movie was released. Now, more than a decade later, they performed it again on the same stage. This time, for all Disney+ viewers to see.
"A lot of us hadn't seen each other since either high school or it had been quite a few years. It had been twelve years since we put the actual production on," said Katie Helscher, one of the cast members.
Helscher was a senior when Gibraltar High School performed "High School Musical." She said she and another friend from the musical sent in an application to "Encore!" and were selected.
In a matter of six days, she said they redid the entire musical. She added that some of the cast brought back for the show had stopped acting, while others continued through college, and a couple others are still a part of the arts. Helscher said she was a theater minor in college. She hoped her training would help her play her character a bit smarter this time around. Now, instead of 16-year-olds playing 16-year-olds, she said they are 30-year-olds playing 16-year-olds.
Helscher said she's also excited to be able to showcase Door County and the people in it.
The episode airs Friday on Disney+.
